Rosa Franco Mendoza
Photographer and visual researcher
My work spans documentary photography, visual anthropology and contemporary art. I explore the relationship between memory, architecture, place, the body and society, observing how
spaces, bodies and experiences leave traces and change over time.
My work is rooted in architectural photography research, archives and experience, combining visual documentation with a way of seeing
personal, to make visible what remains, what changes and what we often fail to see.
Because photography doesn’t just show what we see.
It also preserves what one day we will no longer see
Documentary photography and visual anthropology exploring memory,
architecture, territory, the body and the transformations of society.
Welcome to my creative space.
I am Rosa Franco Mendoza, a documentary photographer born in Barcelona. For more than fifteen years, I have been developing long-term projects exploring the relationship between architecture, heritage, memory and the people who inhabit these spaces.
I see photography as a tool for research and preserving memory. Each project begins with patient observation, time spent with places, and a desire to document what disappears or changes over the years. The project Valores Declarados, developed between 2007 and 2025, is the focus of this research. For eighteen years, I documented the Barcelona Post and Telegraph Palace, recording the transformation of one of the city’s most iconic public buildings.
The work brings together an architectural, documentary and anthropological perspective that preserves spaces, objects and ways of working that have now disappeared or been profoundly transformed by the digital age.
This way of working continues in other projects, such as Tattooed Scars, a reflection on the physical and emotional marks left by illness; Blind Footprints, where landscape and nature enter into dialogue with memory; Casa Postal, dedicated to postal architecture; and Crossed Gazes, a series about the encounter between the photographer’s gaze and that of those moving through public space.
On this website, you’ll find a selection of my projects, workbooks, exhibitions, publications, photobooks, and limited-edition photographic prints. Each photograph is part of a research process developed over many years and is presented as a work made to last, printed using Fine Art techniques, signed, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
My aim is to create a visual record of the present so that future generations can understand the spaces, stories and ways of life that still exist today.
