DECLARED VALUES
Rosa Franco Mendoza
My first book began with photographs taken in 2007 for the Espacios en su Tiempo project at the university, which I presented in three exhibitions in Madrid, Sabadell and Barcelona.
It's the moment 2025 brought to life the object of desire for any photographer who loves visual documentation and anthropology: the photobook.
Between the lens and culture: art that connects worlds
DECLARED VALUES
is a photography project carried out between 2007 and 2025 at Barcelona’s historic Post and Telegraph Palace, a building listed as a Local Cultural Heritage Site.
For eighteen years, I have documented its interior spaces, architecture and the traces left by generations of workers. My perspective is also shaped by personal experience: more than thirty-five years working at Correos, observing the transformation of an institution that for over a century was fundamental to communication and everyday life in the city.
From a documentary, sociological and anthropological perspective, the project explores the relationship between memory, work and territory.
The photographed spaces transcend their administrative function to become living archives, preserving gestures, routines, knowledge and ways of relating that rarely appear in official accounts.
The gradual transformation of these buildings raises questions about what we preserve and what we forget as cities change. Beyond documenting distinctive architecture, the images reflect on the loss of a collective memory tied to the world of work and the communication systems that have shaped our contemporary society.
DECLARED VALUES offers a visual reading of tangible and intangible heritage, understanding photography as a tool for preserving and activating memories that are part of the social history of Barcelona and other cities where these buildings have played an essential role.
