BARCELONA
PALACE
MAIN POST AND TELEGRAPH OFFICE
The Barcelona Palace of Posts and Telegraphs was inaugurated in 1929. The project was carried out by architects Josep Goday Casals (Mataró, 1882–1936) and Jaume Torres
i Grau (Barcelona, 1879–1945).
Also noteworthy is the work of sculptor Manuel Fuxà i Leal (Barcelona, 1850–1927), who created the sculptural crown and the four monumental columns that preside over the main façade.
Located between Via Laietana and the waterfront, the building is one of the most representative examples of early 20th-century institutional architecture.
Its construction was part of the urban development driven by the Cerdà Plan and the aim of providing Barcelona with monumental public buildings befitting the importance of postal communications at the time.
This building is the starting point for the Declared Values project, a photographic investigation documenting its architecture, its memory and the people who brought it to life for over a century.
