GIRONA

PALACE

MAIN POST AND TELEGRAPH OFFICE

The Girona Post and Telegraph Palace was designed by architects Enric Catà i Catà (Barcelona, 1878–1937) and Eusebi Bona i Puig (Barcelona, 1890–1972), two prominent figures in early 20th-century Catalan architecture.

Construction began on October 30, 1916, and was completed in 1919. After the facilities had been fitted out, the building was officially inaugurated and opened to the public on March 30, 1922, as announced by the city's postmaster.

Located in the Barri Vell, on Avinguda Ramon Folch, the building occupies a strategic site next to Girona’s historic centre, forming part of one of the city’s most distinctive urban areas.

The sculptural decoration by Frederic Marès i Deulovol (Portbou, 1893 – Barcelona, 1991), one of the most important Catalan sculptors of the 20th century, stands out, lending the building considerable artistic and monumental value.

Its architecture combines the monumentality typical of the institutional buildings of the period with a Noucentista-inspired style, characterised by restraint, compositional balance and the careful integration of sculptural and ornamental elements.
